Middletown House Fire Caused By Lightning Strike

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that yesterday afternoon’s house fire in Middletown, was accidental, according to Delaware State Fire Marshal Chief Deputy Robert Fox.

Fox said the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown was alerted to a fire in the 800 block of Sweet Birch Drive in the Parkside neighborhood shortly after 2:00 this afternoon. Upon the arrival of the Fire Department, they found smoke conditions coming from the eaves of the residence. Several Fire Companies responded to assist with extinguishment.

Deputies from the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene and have determined that the fire was caused by a lightning strike to the roof area of the residence.

The fire caused approximately 80,000 dollars in damage to the residence. No one was injured during the fire.
