Armed Standoff In Newark, Photos From Inside Perimeter

Newark- On Friday, October 2, 2020, at approximately 9:18 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to Newark Bottle Shop Liquor Store located at 140 Pencader Plaza, Newark, for a report of a robbery in progress, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Heather Pepper.

Pepper said at approximately 9:19 p.m., a Delaware State Trooper arrived on scene and confronted the suspect inside the business. The suspect, in turn, displayed a firearm at the trooper, and an exchange of gunfire took place. The 14-year veteran trooper exited the business and took cover as additional units arrived on the scene. The suspect then barricaded himself inside, and after an approximately four-hour standoff with troopers, the suspect exited the business and was taken into custody without incident.

The suspect was transported to Troop 2, and this incident remains under investigation. No one was injured during this standoff.

This case continues to be investigated by the Delaware State Homicide Unit. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
