Police: Man Indicted In Political Rally Gun Incident

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police arrested 60-year-old MICHAEL B. HASTINGS on Monday, October 5, 2020 stemming from actions committed at a political rally on Thursday, September 24, 2020, according to Public Information Officer, Sergeant Darren Lester.

Lester said the original incident occurred in the area of Lancaster Pike and Barbara Road, Wilmington, in which Hastings pointed a handgun in the direction of a group of individuals on the other side of the street during the rally. On Monday, October 5, 2020, a New Castle County Grand Jury indicted Hastings. The defendant turned himself in to Troop 6 at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020. Detectives requested Hastings bring the firearm in question to Troop 6 and turn the same in, to which Hastings complied. The firearm in question was a Glock 17 handgun.

Hastings was indicted by the grand jury on the following charges:

Reckless Endanger First Degree I (1 Count -Felony)
Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
Hastings was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and released on his own recognizance, with court bail conditions stating he shall relinquish all firearms and/or deadly weapons and may not acquire, nor be in possession of any firearms or deadly weapons.
