Troopers: Driver Killed In Early Morning Bridgeville Crash

Bridgeville – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a crash that occurred on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at approximately 01:04 a.m. on Coverdale Road just north of Nat Turner Drive, 2.6 miles east of Bridgeville.

Public Information Officer, Sergeant Darren Lester said a 2016 Ford Escape was traveling northbound on Coverdale Road at an apparent high rate of speed negotiating a moderate left curve. Due to the high speed, the Ford Escape began to rotate counterclockwise, sliding into the opposing travel lane.

Lester said the driver overcorrected causing the vehicle to slide clockwise sideways off the roadway exposing the driver’s side to a utility pole. The vehicles left side then struck the utility pole coming to final rest in thick foliage. The vehicle’s operator was unrestrained and sustained multiple blunt force injuries and was transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where the operator was pronounced deceased.

During the on-scene investigation, Coverdale Road was closed for 3 hours to allow the utility pole to be replaced.
