Reports: “Explosives Used In WAWA ATM Robbery”

Just after 4:45, this morning firefighters from the Claymont Fire Company were dispatched to the Wawa at 301 Ridge Road in Claymont to assist State Police in what is believed to be a robbery investigation. Investigators with the Deleware State Fire Marshal’s Office also responded to the scene.

Sources familiar with the incident have told First State Update that some sort of explosive devices were used to open the ATM’s during what they described as an armed robbery. Officials have not confirmed this to be the case.

Additional sources told First State Update that an employee at a nearby Wawa reported that the ATMs were robbed and that the store would be closed for the day.

No injuries have been reported.

In recent months Philadelphia Police have reported a string of brazen robbery attempts where thieves have used explosives to destroy ATM’s.

This is a developing story. We will update this story when officials release additional details.
