Salvation Army Of Delaware, Over 200 Riders Raise Almost $5K For Children

On Tuesday the Salvation Army Delaware, again partnered with The Blue Knights Delaware I, for its annual Toy Run. Over 200 Blue Knights lined the streets of Wilmington on their motorcycles to make toy donations that benefited under-served children in the community for the upcoming Christmas season.

The Blue Knights are a fraternal, non-profit organization of active and retired law enforcement consisting of both men and women, who enjoy riding motorcycles. Each year, The Blue Knights raise money and donate gifts for children served by The Salvation Army Delaware. The annual motorcycle ride occurs the second Sunday of November every year and supports The Salvation Army’s local Christmas assistance programs. This year, the Toy Run raised over $4,800.00 for Delaware children and families.

“There is no doubt the need is great this year,” said Major Timothy Sheehan, State Coordinator for The Salvation Army of Delaware. “We give our heartfelt thanks to the Blue Knights who support our Christmas assistance programs every year. With so many people still out of work due to the pandemic, we know the holidays will be especially challenging for many. That’s why we’re determined to stay on the frontlines and do our part, with community support, to Rescue Christmas for those who come to us for assistance. The Blue Knights’ support underscores what we call ‘The Delaware Way’ – neighbors helping neighbors across our communities.”

Based on the increase in services already provided in response to the pandemic, Salvation Army Delaware could serve up to 155% more people in 2020 with Christmas assistance, including putting food on the table, paying bills, providing shelter and helping place gifts under the tree, with the support of the community.
