Latest On Shooting Of Officer In Rehoboth Beach

A Milford Police officer is reportedly recovering from gunshot wounds sustained in a shooting in Rehoboth Beach last evening, according to sources.

The Delaware State Police have taken the lead in the investigation, however, they are not released much in the way of information at this early stage.

A spokeswoman for the State Police would only say that on December 10, 2020, at approximately 7:47 p.m., Delaware State Police received reports of shots fired coming from the area of the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Resort parking lot located at 19540 Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach.

Delaware State Police and surrounding police agencies responded to the scene to assist with the incident. Upon arrival, officers determined a shooting had occurred.

Overnight sources with knowledge of the incident told First State Update the Milford officer, assigned to the U.S. Marshal’s Taskforce, was shot multiple times.

The sources said that the officer was initially transported to Bebee Hospital in Lewes and later flown to Christiana Hospital for emergency surgery. Officials have not confirmed these details.

We have confirmed that multiple U.S. Marshals were at the Christiana Hospital Emergency Room overnight.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that one subject was shot and killed at the scene.  Police have not released details surrounding that part of the investigation either.

This is a developing story. Additional details will be released as they become available.
