Man, Woman Shot And Killed In Newark Saturday Night

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police are investigating a double homicide in the investigation of a double homicide in Hunters Crossing Apartments.

Yesterday, December 12th, 2020, at approximately 9:17 P.M., Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the area of Fairway Road for reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, the responding officers discovered a 23-year-old male, and an 18-year-old female suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately started life savings efforts, however, both victims died from their wounds. Initial reports from the scene indicate that witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and people screaming.

Several minutes after the rescue response was dispatched, Newark Police began alerting their officers that a suspect was fleeing County Police into Newark.

A vehicle being tailed by a police officer was observed traveling at a high rate of speed on Casho Mill Road in the area of Downes Elementry.  At the intersection of  Casho Mill Road and Nottingham Road, several County Officers converged on the area and were out searching on foot with their flashlights.

Moments later, Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 arrived on scene. The helicopter flew past the area of the intersection at high speed and began hovering in Maryland in the area of Appleton Road. Within a couple of minutes, the helicopter returned to the area of Casho Mill Road and Nottingham Road and began circling the area. Officials have not released details surrounding the chase or the identity of the shooter.

Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police; Criminal Investigation Unit arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation.
