Police: Young Man Facing Felony Charges After Armed Robbery

On Wednesday, January 13th, patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the community of Glasgow Trailer Court for a report of a robbery, according Spokesman M/Cpl. Michel Eckerd.

Eckerd said when the officers arrived at the scene, they were able to contact the 18-year-old male victim. The officers learned that the victim had left a store in the Salem Center Shopping Center. When the victim walked behind the Food Lion and into the community of Glasgow Trailer Court, on Albert Street, he was approached by a black male who displayed a handgun. The suspect then took the victim’s wallet and a cell phone before fleeing the area, Eckerd said Tuesday.

The victim gave a description of the suspect to the police, however, he did not recognize the man because he was wearing a mask. While investigating the incident patrol officers obtained surveillance footage from the area. Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigation Unit were able to identify the suspect as 18-year-old Rashawn George, Eckerd said.

On January 22nd, a search warrant was authored and executed at George’s residence and evidence linking him to the robbery was recovered. He was not at the residence at this time.

On Monday George turned himself into New Castle County Police Headquarters where he was charged with one count felony Robbery 1st, once count of felony Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and one count of felony Aggravated Menacing.

Court records indicate that George was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2. He is held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $126,000 cash-only bail.
