Newark-Area House Fire Friday Morning Ruled Accidental

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal has determined that this morning’s house fire in Newark was accidental, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly before 8:30 am, occurred in the 5000 block of West Woodmill Drive in the Woodmill development near Kirkwood Highway. The Mill Creek Fire Company arrived on the scene with smoke pouring out of the garage attached to the townhome.

Deputy fire marshals conducted the on-scene investigation which revealed that the fire erupted when an electrical malfunction occurred within the garage.

Heavy fire damage was estimated at $25,000. There were no reported injuries.
