Troopers Investigating Shots Fired In New Castle On Monday

New Castle- Delaware State Police are investigating a shots fired incident which took place Monday afternoon, according to Public Information Officer, Corporal/1 Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said on April 26, 2021, at approximately 12:03 p.m., troopers responded to the Relax Inn located at 133 South DuPont Highway, New Castle, for a report of shots fired. The investigation determined a 23-year-old male was operating a red 2008 Toyota Camry northbound Route 13 at Route 40. The Camry made a lane change that cut off a dark-colored sedan. The Camry then made a u-turn and entered the parking lot of the Relax Inn. The dark-colored sedan pulled next to the Camry in the parking lot and the operators exchanged words. The 23-year-old male victim got back into his vehicle and attempted to exit the parking lot when his rear windshield was struck by gunfire. No one was injured during the incident.

An FSU reader reported yesterday that police had several rooms at the motel taped off during their investigation.

Troopers discovered eight .380 caliber shell casings at the scene.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing all dark clothing.

Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Detective Timmons with Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigative Unit by calling 302-365-8434.
