Police: Dover Murder Suspect Arrested By U.S. Marshals In New York

The Dover Police Department has arrested Riley Braswell (22) for the April 12th Shooting Death of Dazhmier Brooks, according to Dover Police.

Officials said Braswell was apprehended in Brooklyn, New York on May 3rd, 2021 by the United States Marshals Service 1st State Fugitive Task Force with assistance from the United States Marshals Service Eastern District.

Braswell was arrested without incident and was in possession of a 9mm handgun. He is currently being held in New York, pending extradition to Delaware on the following charges:

-Murder 1st Degree
-Possession of Firearm During Commission of Felony
-Possession of Firearm by Person Prohibited (2x)
-Tampering with Evidence

The Dover Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a 19-year-old male that occurred on Monday evening, according to Dover Police Department Public Information Office
Sergeant Mark Hoffman.

Hoffman said officers responded to the 400 Block of Sussex Avenue after receiving calls for a shooting at approximately 9:16 p.m. When officers arrived, they located 19-year-old Dazhmier Brooks, who was unresponsive as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers rendered aid to Brooks until medical personnel arrived on scene and transported him to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital. Brooks later died as a result of his injury.

The incident is the first homicide in the City of Dover in 2021.
