Troopers Identify Woman Killed In Harrington Crash Wednesday

Harrington – Delaware State Police have identified the individual who died in the fatal motor vehicle crash on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, as 65-year-old Charma Edmonds of Silver Spring, MD.

Harrington, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

On June 9, 2021, at approximately 4:05 p.m., a 2003 Honda Accord driven by a Rockville, Maryland, man was stopped in the median crossover at South DuPont Highway and Hopkins Cemetery Road. A 2000 Honda Civic driven by a Harrington man was traveling southbound on South DuPont Highway, approaching Hopkins Cemetery Road in the right travel lane. At this time, the Accord entered South DuPont Highway to travel westbound on Hopkins Cemetery Road and entered the Civic’s lane of travel, according to police.

The front of the Accord was struck in the front passenger side door area. After impact, the Accord and Civic traveled off the west edge of the roadway. They entered the front parking lot of Callaway Furniture before the Accord disengaged from the Civic and continued traveling southwest. The front of the Accord struck the front of Callaway Furniture and came to rest. The Civic came to an uncontrolled stop facing west in the parking lot.

The driver of the Accord was transported to an area hospital and admitted for minor injuries. The passenger, a  65-year-old Silver Springs, Maryland woman was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The driver of the Civic was treated at the scene by EMS.

Callaway Furniture was occupied at the time of the collision, but there were no injuries to any of the occupants inside the store.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the investigation was completed, and the roadway was cleared. This collision remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information regarding the investigation should contact Cpl/3 W.
