Loud Music In Newport Leads To New York Man Being Held On $90K

On July 4th, 2021 at approximately 1:11 P.M., a Newport Police Officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound on E Justis Street playing extremely loud music. Additionally, the Officer performed a registration inquiry on the vehicle and discovered that the vehicle’s registered owner’s driver’s license was suspended, according to police.

Officials said the Officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and the vehicle came to a stop on the on-ramp to State Route 141 southbound. During the course of the traffic stop, one of the occupants was identified as Adam Wright, 42 of the 800 block of Columbus Avenue in New York, New York.

Police said Wright was in possession of the following items:
-approximately 4.3 grams of Marijuana
-drug paraphernalia
-approximately 1.6 grams of Cocaine
-1 loaded black Hi-Point 45 caliber handgun
-$474.00 of suspected drug proceeds

Wright was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm while in possession of controlled substances, possession with the intent to deliver Cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, civil possession of Marijuana.

He was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 11 where he received a $90,000.00 cash-only bail. Mr. Wright was committed to the Department of Correction after failing to post bail.
