Woman Found Shot To Death In Cornfield East Of Dover

Delaware State Police are conducting a homicide investigation in Dover.

Police said on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at approximately 8:57 a.m., the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit responded to the 2000 block of Dyke Branch Road, Dover, for a deceased subject located in a field. The victim, a 30-year-old female, was found in a cornfield with apparent gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. She was taken to the Division of Forensic Science for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

At around the same time on Saturday rescue crews responded to a nearby address on Country Haven Lane for a shooting. Initial reports indicate that one person was transported to the hospital. Police have not said if the two incidents are related.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

At around 11:30 DelDOT posted a message alerting motorists that Dyke Branch Road was closed due to police activity.
“DYKE BRANCH RD IS CLOSED BETWEEN E DENNEYS RD AND WHEEL OF FORTUNE RD DUE TO POLICE ACTIVITY.”
