$11M Bridge Replacement In Milton Means Contra-Flow For Route 1

DelDOT has announced to motorists that there will be contra-flow of traffic on Route 1 northbound for the replacement of the bridge over Broadkill River. There will be a single lane of traffic in each direction on Route 1.

At 6:00 Monday morning, October 4, 2021, the contractor, R. E Pierson Construction Company Inc, will begin work on the Route 1 northbound bridge span. Once completed, work will begin on the southbound span of the bridge. Work is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2022, pending weather.

Route 1 northbound/southbound (Bridge over Broadkill River) between Paynter Road and Lockerman Road in Milton.

The rehabilitation of the bridge over Broadkill River involves the replacement of the existing concrete deck with a new concrete deck and barriers, replacement of bearings, constructing new bearing pedestals, cleaning and painting of steel members, repair of cracks and spalls in the concrete piers and abutments, replacement of pile jackets, and placement of riprap for erosion protection. Additional work includes minor roadway approach reconstruction.

R. E Pierson Construction Company Inc. submitted a bid of $11,430,333.08 and was awarded the contract on December 1, 2020.
