Accident Closes Concord Pike, Knocks Out Power Monday Night

Just before 7:00, Monday evening rescue crews responded to Route 202 in the area of the Concord Mall for reports of high-velocity motor vehicle accident.

While en route to the scene crews learned that powerlines were down on a vehicle with the occupant still inside the vehicle. As a result of the live powerlines, Delmarva Power was dispatch to the location. Once the power was cut crews were able to make access to the patient. The condition of the patient is unknown at this time.

Shortly after the accident Delaware State Police issued the following statement: “Delaware State Police is issuing a traffic advisory for Concord Pike (Rte 202) northbound in the area of Concord Mall. The roadway will be closed for an extended period of time due to a traffic accident in the area. Motorist are urged to seek alternate routes of travel to avoid long delays.”

The accident knocked power out to the area. As of 6:20 Tuesday morning around 60 customers were still without power.
