Police: Man Pistol-Whips Acquaintance In Dover On Monday

Dover- Delaware State Police have charged 20-year-old Michael Straker of North Hollywood, CA with Aggravated Menacing, and related charges after he struck a male acquaintance with a handgun, according to Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said the incident occurred on September 6, 2021, at approximately 5:20 p.m., when troopers responded to the 300 block of Carlisle Drive in Dover in reference to an assault with a weapon. The investigation determined a 33-year-old male victim had a verbal altercation with Straker. During the argument, Straker displayed a black handgun and struck the victim in the side of the head. The suspect then fled on foot prior to police arrival, according to Hatchell. Troopers located Straker walking on Carlisle Drive and took him into custody without incident. A canvass of the area was conducted and troopers discovered the handgun in a wooded area behind the residence. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

Straker was transported to Troop 9 where he was charged with the following crimes:

Aggravated Menacing (Felony)
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
Offensive Touching
Straker was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court #7 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $11,500 secured bond.
