Three-Year-Old Dies In Tragic Accident, Brother Hospitalized

New Castle- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred at a residence in New Castle Sunday night.

Police said on October 10, 2021, at approximately 7:13 p.m., a 2006 Mitsubishi Raider operated by a 13-year-old male was traveling through the front yard of a private residence located in the 1000 block of Red Lion Road, New Castle. The operator stopped the vehicle at the edge of the driveway, and at this time his 6-year-old and 3-year-old brothers, grabbed the side of the passenger side doors and stood on the running boards. The operator yelled for the brothers to get off the vehicle so he could drive. The 13-year-old believing his brothers were off the vehicle, turned right and began to travel north on the west side of the property. The operator stopped the vehicle after he heard his 6-year-old brother crying and observed his 3-year-old brother lying on the ground official said Monday.

The 3-year-old male pedestrian who was believed to have fallen and run over by the rear right passenger tire was transported to Christiana hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The 6-year-old male pedestrian who also fell off the truck was transported to Christiana hospital and treated for his injuries.
