The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred early this morning north of Ogletown, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Gary Fournier.

Fournier said around 5:50 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021, a 2001 Ford Focus, operated by an 18-year-old male from Newark, was traveling westbound on Ogletown Stanton Road (SR4) in the left thru lane and was approaching the intersection with Harmony Road. At the same time, a 2002 Dodge Dakota, operated by a 52-year-old female from Wilmington, was traveling northbound on Harmony Road approaching the intersection with SR4. The intersection of SR4 and Harmony Road is controlled by traffic lights. Both vehicles then entered the intersection at the same time, which resulted in the Focus striking the front passenger’s side of the Dakota.

The 52-year-old driver of the Dodge Dakota was not properly restrained and was transported by EMS to Christiana Medical Center (CMC) where she was pronounced dead. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A 53-year-old male passenger in the Dakota was not properly restrained and was treated and released on the scene by EMS with unknown injuries.

The 18-year-old driver of the Ford Focus was not properly restrained and was transported to CMC where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The intersection of SR4 and Harmony Road was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

No charges have been filed at this time and the traffic control signals at the intersection were functioning correctly at the time of the crash said Fournier.
