DOC Confirms Inmate Was Injured Saturday At SCI, Won’t Confirm Social Media Reports

On Saturday at around 7:00 pm, rescue crews and Trooper 2 responded to the Sussex Correctional Institution (SCI) located at 23203 Dupont Blvd. in Georgetown. FSU has learned that the crews responded for reports that an inmate was seriously injured.

Department of Correction spokesman, Jason Miller, would not comment on social media reports that the injured inmate was recently arrested in a high-profile arrest in Sussex County.

Miller would only say “A pre-trial inmate housed at Sussex Correctional Institution made an attempt at self-harm Saturday evening. Security and medical staff immediately responded and the inmate is receiving medical care for non-life-threatening injuries. No inmate death occurred at SCI this past weekend, including death by suicide. For privacy protection reasons, the DOC will not identify the name of the inmate nor will we comment further.”
