Firefighters Find Body Inside Middletown Home During Fire

At around 9:30 Monday morning firefighters from several area fire companies responded to a home in the 200 block Oak Drive in Middletown for reports of a house fire.

First arriving crews reported fire showing from the home. Crews were alerted that one person may be trapped inside the home, however,  crews had trouble making access into the home due to heavy fire. At one point firefighters were ordered to evacuate the structure, Command ordering a defensive fight.

Crews eventually entered the home where they discovered a body. The body has been turned over to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, according to the Fire Marshal’s Office.

Crews remained on scene for much of the day. After about five and a half hours of working the fire and the investigation, authorities cleared the scene at around 3:00.

Heavy fire damage was estimated at $200,000.

This is a developing story.
