Newport Crash Knocks Out Power Wednesday Evening.

Newport Police are investigating a serious crash that left 1900 Delmarva Power customers without power Wednesday night.

Just after 6;45 Newport Police and rescue crews responded to  E Justis Street and N Augustine Street in Newport for reports of a rollover crash with injuries.

Upon arrival, crews reported a vehicle on its side with a power pole leaning over the accident. Command ordered the road closed.

Residents in the area reported that the power was out on the FSU Facebook page and via Facebook messenger. We confirmed that 1900 customers were without power. Some readers reported that the lights flickered while others reported that the power was out for about an hour.

New Castle County Paramedics (NCCEMS) said they were dispatched to assist the Newport Police Department on a Motor Vehicle Accident in the area of E Justis Street and N Augustine Street in Newport.

NCCEMS Assistant PIO MaryKate Selner said units arrived to find an approximately 25-year-old male in stable condition. The patient was transported to Christiana Hospital by an ambulance from Cranston Heights Fire Company accompanied by New Castle County.
