Troopers Release Details In This Morning’s Fatal Accident Near Felton

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred early Monday morning, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Heather Pepper.

Pepper said on January 3, 2022, at approximately 6:48 a.m., a 55-year-old Felton man was operating a 2003 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on Firetower Road in Felton, just east of Berrytown Road. For unknown reasons, the operator exited the north edge of the roadway and entered a ditch. The Jeep traveled a short distance before the front center of the vehicle collided with a large tree.

The operator was not properly restrained and was pronounced dead at the scene said Pepper. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours for the investigation to be completed.

This collision remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Cpl/3 William Booth by calling 302-697-4454.
