Six Displaced After Apartment Fire Near Maryland Avenue

The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal has determined that last evening’s fire in Wilmington was accidental, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said the Five Points Fire Company was dispatched to an apartment building on fire around 7:30 pm in the unit block of East Reamer Avenue near South Maryland Avenue in Middleboro Manor.
Firefighters encountered an active fire inside a second-floor apartment. All occupants got out of the building after hearing the fire alarm system sound throughout the building.

Fire investigators said the fire, which originated inside the kitchen, was caused when food cooking on the stove was left unsupervised. Heavy fire damage was estimated at $50,000.

Four adults and two children were relocated. The American Red Cross provided emergency assistance for those displaced because of the fire.

There were no reported injuries.
