Woman In Critical Condition After Early Morning Fire In St. Georges

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating this morning’s fire in Saint Georges, Delaware that heavily damaged a house and critically injured one occupant according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.

Chionchio said the blaze, reported just before 3:00 am, occurred in the unit block of Center Street in the St. Georges Heights neighborhood. The Delaware City Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting from the house and one person trapped inside. Firefighters entered the burning home and rescued the occupant.

New Castle County paramedics resuscitated the  71-year-old woman and transported her to the Christiana Hospital emergency room. She was later transferred to the Crozer Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania. She is listed in critical condition with smoke inhalation and burns.

Deputy State fire marshals were called to the scene and are currently searching for the fire’s origin and cause. Heavy fire damage was estimated at $150,000. This fire remains under investigation.
