Reports: Fire Marshal’s Office Investigating Fatal Condo Fire In Pike Creek

Just after 2:45, Saturday morning firefighters from across New Castle County responded to the 5000 block of W. Brigantine Court for reports of a multi-residential structure fire.

As crews responded to the fire they learned that someone may be trapped inside one of the buildings at the scene. As crews arrived on scene they found heavy fire showing throughout the condominium building with four units involved and struck a second alarm.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that firefighters began their attack on the fire and simultaneously began searching units for victims. At one point Command ordered an evacuation of the building due to safety concerns.

Crews and investigators were on scene for more than four hours Saturday morning.

Sources familiar with the incident tell FSU that one patient was later found deceased inside the building and was pronounced at the scene.

This is a developing story – We’re expecting an official statement from the Fire Marshal later today.
