Three Escape Just Before Train Destroys Car In Newark Wednesday

Newark Police are investigating an accident involving a CSX train and a passenger car.

Just before 5:00, Wednesday evening officers responded to the area of West Main Street and New London Road for reports of a motor vehicle crash involving a train.

Arriving officers found a vehicle with heavy damage throughout. Initial reports from the scen3e indicate that multiple occupants of the car were able to escape prior to impact.

Newark Police issued the following statement “Due to a crash involving a train striking a vehicle, expect delays at the West Main Street and New London Avenue crossing at the CSX railroad tracks.  There will be intermittent lane closures as debris is cleared from the area.  The train is not blocking the crossing at this time.  Use an alternate route and expect delays.”
