Car Struck By Train In Newark Early Saturday, At Least Two Seriously Injured

Officials are investigating a crash involving a CSK train that injured two Saturday morning.

Newark Police Sgt. Joseph Conover said on April 23, 2022 at approximately 2:15 A.M., the Newark Police Department responded to the area of the CSX railroad crossing at West Main Street and New London Road for a reported vehicle versus train collision.

Upon arrival, officers found that one vehicle had been struck by a CSX train that was traveling eastbound. The preliminary investigation indicates that the struck vehicle was traveling southbound on New London Road, turned right onto the train tracks and became disabled. Shortly after becoming disabled, all occupants exited the vehicle. Almost immediately, the eastbound CSX train approached the area and struck the disabled vehicle. Two subjects associated with the struck vehicle were still in the area of the vehicle when the train struck. Those two subjects sustained serious life-threatening injuries and were transported to Christiana Hospital by AETNA Hose, Hook and Ladder ambulance, and New Castle County Paramedics.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Newark Police Department Traffic Unit. The Newark Police Department was assisted at the scene by the University of Delaware Police Department, AETNA Hook, Hose & Ladder Company, DelDOT, and CSX.
