At approximately 12:59 am, on Sunday New Castle County Paramedics, Minquas Fire Company of Newport, Cranston Heights Fire Company, Elsmere Fire Company, and Five Points Fire Company were dispatched to the intersection of Old Airport Road and South James Street for a motor vehicle collision with reported entrapment according to Assistant PIO Oliver Kocher.
Kocher said when crews arrived on scene they advised that the incident involved a multi-vehicle collision and confirmed entrapment.
Upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found the following 3 patients:
1. 39-year-old male with suspected internal injuries. The patient was extricated from the vehicle by rescue personnel. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Christiana Hospital by ground via Minquas Fire Company ambulance, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in serious condition at the time of transport.
2. 31-year-old female with minor injuries. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Christiana Hospital by ground via Cranston Heights Fire Company ambulance, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in stable condition at the time of transport.
3. 21-year-old male with minor injuries. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Christiana Hospital by ground via Five Points Fire Company ambulance, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in stable condition at the time of transport.
Newport Police is investigating the crash.
