Woman Charged With Assaulting Officer Released On Unsecured Bond

The Dover Police Department has arrested Tailah Smith, 21, of Dover, after she resisted arrest and assaulted an officer during a traffic stop Tuesday evening according to police.

Officials said the incident began when a patrol officer observed Smith commit a traffic violation while she was operating a vehicle.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and Smith immediately exited her vehicle and became confrontational with the officer. The officer attempted to detain Smith, at which time she punched the officer in the face and upper body said police. After a struggle with several officers, Smith was taken into custody without further incident. The officer punched by Smith sustained a minor injury to his lip and his left hand however he refused medical treatment. His watch was also broken during the struggle with Smith. Smith was transported to Dover Police where she was processed and arraigned.

Smith was released on $9,702 unsecured bond on the following charges:
-Assault Second Degree; Injures a Law Enforcement Officer
-Resisting Arrest with Force (4x)
-Resisting Arrest (3x)
-Criminal Mischief Under $1,000
-Disorderly Conduct
-Failure to Signal Within 300 Feet of Turning
-Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
