Man Jailed After Fleeing From Police

Wilmington Police have arrested a man on drug charges after recovering more than 4 pounds of marijuana according to police.
 
Officials said on March 8 at approximately 5:31 p.m., a police officer on patrol attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 1100 block of Maple Street after observing a moving violation. The vehicle fled from officers and was located moments later in the 300 block of Connell Street. The driver, 21-year-old Alexander Alvarado, fled on foot but was taken into custody without incident after a brief foot pursuit police said. Police recovered approximately 4.1 pounds of marijuana, ammunition, a digital scale, and $303.61 in currency.


 
Alvarado has been charged with the following offenses in addition to numerous traffic violations:

  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance in Tier 2 Quantity
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $13,325 cash-only bail.
