One Dead, One Injured In Officer-Involved Shooting

On Monday night at approximately 7:40 p.m., officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were conducting a drug investigation in the area of the 7-11 at Maryland Avenue and W. Champlain Avenue.

Police said during the course of this investigation, an officer discharged their weapon striking a male and female subject.  Both subjects were transported to Christiana Medical Center where the male subject was later pronounced deceased.

Initial reports indicate that the male was struck multiple times including once in the head. The female was reportedly struck in the leg. She is currently being treated at the hospital for what police say are non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials said per police policy, the officer has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is conducted. Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Unit and the Delaware Department of Justice-Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust are currently investigating this shooting.
