Six Construction Workers Dead After Car Plows Into Them Near Baltimore

Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred this afternoon on Interstate 695 in Baltimore County.

Emergency medical service personnel pronounced six people deceased at the scene.  Identities of the deceased are pending next of kin notification. 

The driver of a grey Acura passenger vehicle involved in the crash was transported from the scene by ground to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for medical treatment. The identity of the driver is unknown at this time.

At about 12:40 p.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Golden Ring Barrack responded to a report of a pedestrian crash in a work zone at the inner loop of I-695 at Security Boulevard. According to a preliminary investigation and for reasons unknown at this time, an Acura entered the work zone traveling in between temporarily placed jersey walls, striking multiple construction workers before overturning.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is investigating the cause of the crash. Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration are on scene assisting with detours and road closures.
