Troopers Investigating Fatal Georgetown Crash

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single-car crash that occurred last night in Georgetown.

On April 17, 2023, at approximately 10:50 p.m., a gray 2012 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 was traveling southbound on Old Furnace Road approaching the intersection at Asbury Road. After driving through the intersection, the driver of the Mercedes failed to negotiate a slight curve in the roadway, and the SUV exited the east (left) side of the road and entered a ditch. The Mercedes struck a series of drainage pipes and a mailbox before colliding with a utility pole. The SUV then overturned once and came to a stop upright in a nearby residential front yard.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 36-year-old man from Bridgeville, Delaware, sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.

No other vehicles were involved in this collision. Old Furnace Road was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
