Driver Killed In Tragic Crash Near Dover Monday

The Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred in the Dover area early this morning that left one man dead.

Officials said on June 19, 2023, at approximately 3:56 a.m., a 2015 GMC Acadia was traveling northbound on Bayside Drive approaching a slight right curve, south of Leipsic Road, at an apparent high rate of speed.

For unknown reasons, the driver failed to maintain control of the vehicle, allowing it to cross over the solid double yellow centerlines and exit off the west (left) edge of the roadway. The Acadia traveled approximately 150 feet in an embankment parallel to the roadway before it struck a tree. Upon impact with the tree, the Acadia spun counterclockwise, overturned onto its passenger (right) side, and caught fire.

The driver of the Acadia has yet to be identified and was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers in the car, and no other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Bayside Drive was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
