Police: Man Charged In Stabbing After SWAT Standoff

Officers from the New Castle County Division of Police have charged 49-year-old Don Hazeldine following an assault investigation.

Officials said on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 8:11 p.m., Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Marsh Lane in the Forest Brook Glen community in reference to an assault in progress.

Upon arrival, Officers located an adult female victim with a laceration injury. The victim reported she had been stabbed by the suspect, Don Hazeldine police said. It was further reported that Hazeldine was still inside the residence and was refusing to come outside.

Patrol Officers along with the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), Delaware State Police, and Newport Police Department established a perimeter. After providing instructions, Hazeldine exited the home and was taken into custody without incident.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment for her injuries. Don Hazeldine was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters and charged with one felony count of assault in the first degree, one felony count of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. Hazeldine was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Howard Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $121,000.00 cash bail.
