Driver Killed In Accident On Wednesday Morning

Delaware State Police is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Felton yesterday morning.

Officials said on September 13, 2023, at approximately 7:36 a.m., a 2016 Volvo truck tractor pulling an empty trailer was traveling on Sandtown Road and had stopped for the stop sign at the Burnite Mill Road intersection.

A 2003 Ford F65 was traveling westbound on Burnite Mill Road, approaching Sandtown Road. The Volvo then turned eastbound on Burnite Mill Road, causing its trailer to enter the path of the Ford. The driver attempted to steer the Ford to the right to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful, causing the vehicle to underride the Volvo’s trailer police said. The Ford and Volvo, along with its trailer, ended up in a soybean field located off Sandtown Road.

The driver of the Ford, a 44-year-old man from Woodside, Delaware, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified. The driver of the Volvo, a 48-year-old man from Bear, was not injured during the crash. The roadway was closed for approximately 5 hours to investigate the crash and remove any obstructions from the road.

The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues investigating this incident.
