UD Band Member Identified As Rider Killed In Dover Motorcycle Accident

The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Dover that left a young man dead.

Officials said on October 18, 2023, at approximately 5:16 p.m., a red 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling westbound on Hazlettville Road, east of Apple Grove School Road.  The Dodge attempted to make a left turn into the driveway of a private residence in front of a black 2022 Kawasaki EX4 motorcycle that was traveling eastbound on Hazlettville Road. The Dodge struck the front tire of the motorcycle in the eastbound lane, which caused the motorcyclist to be ejected police said. The motorcyclist came to rest in the westbound lane.

The motorcyclist, identified as 18-year-old Ethan Statham of Dover, was pronounced dead at the scene.

University of Delaware band members learned of Ethan’s accident earlier this week and that information was shared with FSU.

The driver of the Dodge, a 57-year-old man from Dover, was not injured.
