Police: Bit Two Troopers, Spit On Medic, Fled Crash, Released On Own Recognizance

Delaware State Police have arrested Wanda Rodriguez Gonzalez, 26, of Salisbury, Maryland, on charges that include felony resisting arrest and driving under the influence (DUI).

On November 6, 2023, at approximately 2:07 p.m., troopers were called to the area of Millsboro Highway and Laurel Road, Millsboro, Delaware, for a hit-and-run collision.

Officials said when troopers arrived, they were advised the fleeing vehicle became disabled in the area of Careys Camp Road. An officer from Millsboro Police Department and responding troopers located the driver of the fleeing vehicle down the road from the original collision scene.

Officials said the driver, later identified as Gonzalez, exhibited signs of impairment and was detained in the rear of the patrol vehicle. While the troopers were conducting the investigation, Rodriguez Gonzalez began striking the windows in the rear of the patrol vehicle. As troopers were handcuffing Gonzalez, she resisted and bit a trooper’s arm according to police.

While she was being transported to Troop 4, she kept banging her head against the window, causing injury to her forehead and also caused damage to the patrol vehicle. An ambulance responded to Troop 4 to treat her injuries. During that time, Gonzalez spit on a paramedic and bit a second trooper officials said.

Gonzalez faces several charges, including felony resisting arrest with force, offensive touching of a paramedic, two counts of offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, criminal mischief with damages less than $5000, and DUI, along with other traffic-related offenses.

Following her arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 3, Gonzalez was released on her own recognizance pending further legal proceedings.
