Officials: 12-Year-Old Charged After Police Find Gun

Wilmington Police are investigating an incident involving a 12-year-old boy.

Officials said said on December 23, at approximately 3:07 p.m., officers noticed a male juvenile acting suspiciously while they were patrolling the 200 block of West 36th Street.

Officers made contact with a 12-year-old male juvenile who was found to have a loaded 9mm handgun according to police. He was taken into custody.

Following the arrest, the 12-year-old was charged with multiple offenses. These charges include two counts of Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited and Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon.

He was subsequently arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on a $15,000 unsecured bail.
