Police: Felony Charges For Student In School BB Gun Incident

Deleware State Police are investigating an incident that occurred in Georgetown on Wednesday.

Officials said on December 20, 2023, Delaware State Police responded to an incident at Sussex Central High School, located at 26026 Patriots Way in Georgetown, Delaware.

At approximately 10:13 a.m., police took a 17-year-old student into custody after finding a BB gun according to police. The student’s actions, which included displaying the firearm and racking its slide, caused alarm among peers police said.

The situation was addressed by the School Resource Officer and Constables, who detained the student. A subsequent search revealed the presence of the BB gun. The student was taken into custody and transported to Troop 4. Charges filed against the student include Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Weapon in a Safe School Zone, both felonies, as well as Disorderly Conduct.

The student was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and has been committed to the Stevenson House Detention Center. The bond was set at $2001, secured.
