Women Seriously Injured, Dog Reportedly Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver

Despite waiting nine days to release a few details Wilmington Police are for assistance from the public related to a hit-and-run motor vehicle collision.

Officials said on December 10 at approximately 7:45 p.m., police responded to the intersection of South Clayton and Maple Streets in reference to a motor vehicle collision, in which a pedestrian was struck and the striking vehicle fled the scene.

FSU has fielded several messages over these last nine days asking us about the woman who was struck. We learned from those messages and posts on social media that the woman’s dog died in her arms while she lay injured in the street.

Police did not release the woman’s identity or the nature of her injuries, however, reports on social media indicate that she was seriously injured. Police said the victim was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The striking vehicle is believed to be a tan minivan or full-sized SUV, which fled north on Clayton Street (traveling in the wrong direction) following the collision.

It’s not clear why Wilmington Police waited nine days to release information regarding this incident
