Two Hospitalized After Sunday Accident in New Castle

The Delaware State Police is investigating a crash that left two injured Sunday.

The collision occurred this afternoon just after 1:00 in the area of W. Basin Road and Jay Drive in New Castle.

New Castle County Paramedics, along with several local fire companies, were dispatched to a scene where a pickup truck had collided with a pole, trapping its occupants.

Upon arrival, medics reported that the driver, a man approximately 40 years old, was trapped inside the truck. Fire department units from Wilmington Manor, Belvedere, Five Points, and Minquas worked to extricate the driver in under 15 minutes. He received medical attention for potential head and internal injuries and was subsequently transported to Christiana Hospital, where he is reported to be in serious condition.

Additionally, a 70-year-old male passenger was found to have sustained an extremity injury. He too was treated at the scene and transported to Christiana Hospital. His condition is described as serious but stable.
