On the evening of Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at approximately 10:33 p.m., the Dover Police Department responded to a serious motor vehicle crash at the intersection of North DuPont Highway at Lepore Drive in Dover.

Officials said the incident involved a stolen Honda Grom motorcycle operated by a 15-year-old male with a 14-year-old male passenger. Preliminary investigations indicate that the 15-year-old was riding recklessly, running several red lights, and disobeying multiple traffic laws prior to the collision police said Wednesday. The motorcycle was later confirmed to have been stolen from Philadelphia.

As the motorcycle traveled south on North DuPont Highway, it ran a red light at a high rate of speed and collided with a Honda CRV that was legally making a U-turn. The impact left both the operator and passenger of the motorcycle with serious injuries. They were transported to Bayhealth Kent Campus for treatment and are currently in stable condition.

Further investigation revealed that the 15-year-old operator was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash according to police.

Following their release from medical care, the operator will face multiple charges, including DUI, two counts of Vehicular Assault in the Second Degree, Receiving Stolen Property, and various traffic offenses.
