Thursday Morning Head-On Collison Sends Two To Hospital, Closes Road

Delaware State Police are investigating a head-on collision on Wheatleys Pond Road between Coldwater Drive and Huntington Drive in Clayton.

The collision, which occurred at approximately 8:49 Thursday morning, left two seriously injured and caused the road to be closed

First responders from Clayton, Smyrna EMS, and Kent County Paramedics responded to the crash, where they found two individuals seriously injured and entrapped in their vehicles. Command requested a second Advanced Life Support (ALS) unit to assist with the extrication and treatment of the victims.

By 9:0, the first trapped patient had been successfully freed from the wreckage. The second patient was extricated shortly thereafter at 9:15. A male patient was transported by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, while a female patient was taken to Kent General in Dover for further medical treatment.

In addition to the emergency medical response, HAZMAT units were dispatched to address a fluid cleanup at the crash site. All lanes on Wheatleys Pond Road between Coldwater Drive and Huntington Drive remain closed as the cleanup and investigation continue.

Authorities urge drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
