Serious Crash Blocks I-95 Thursday Night

The Delaware State police are investigating a crash that occurred Thursday evening.

Just after 10:50, rescue crews were dispatched to reports of a crash involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 95 South near the Churchmans Road off-ramp. Emergency crews arrived and confirmed that one occupant was trapped in their vehicle. Firefighters successfully extricated the individual just before 11:00 p.m.

According to initial radio reports, the vehicle was reportedly struck from behind, possibly by a tractor-trailer, which forced it into another vehicle, resulting in significant damage to the front of the vehicle and trapping the occupant.

The patient was freed from the wreckage and transported to The ChristianaCare Trauma Center in critical condition at the time of transport. The Delaware State Police are conducting an investigation into the crash.

The roadway was blocked for an extended period while crews investigated and cleared the crash.

Further details will be provided as they become available.
