Resident Reported Trapped In Friday House Fire

Just after 12:15 on Friday, Wilmington Firefighters were dispatched to the 2700 block of North Pine Street for a report of smoke coming from the roof of the residence with a subject trapped on the first floor.

Units arrived and reported a smoke condition from the roof around the area of the chimney. Fire Department members assisted a resident that was unable to leave the residence under their own power. Units investigated and located a small area of fire in the second-floor ceiling.

Engine’s 3 & 5 stretched hand lines and quickly extinguished the fire in the second-floor ceiling. A search of the residence was made, and no other occupants were located inside of the building. The Incident Commander placed the scene under control at 12:49 pm with units remaining on scene for overhaul.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Wilmington Fire Marshal’s office. The residence sustained minor smoke, water and fire damage. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family. There were no firefighter injuries.
