Police: Fatal Maryland Avenue Hit-And-Run Vehicle, Driver Located

Wilmington Police are conducting an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in the early morning hours on Monday. The incident took place at approximately 5:07 a.m. in the area of Maryland Avenue and Lower Oak Street.

Responding officers and rescue personnel arrived on scene shortly after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, they located a female juvenile, believed to be between the ages of 15 and 17, who had sustained fatal injuries. The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police said the vehicle involved in this collision fled from the scene. It was later recovered in Bear and the driver has been located officials said. This incident remains under investigation by the WPD Special Operations Division/Traffic Unit, and further details will be released when possible.
