Wilmington Man Arrested for Assaulting Crossing Guard in Garfield Park
Authorities have arrested a Wilmington man in connection with the assault of a senior crossing guard in the Garfield Park community earlier this week.
Officials said on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at approximately 8:25 a.m., patrol units from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to the intersection of Halcyon Drive and Cross Avenue for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a 75-year-old crossing guard who reported being physically assaulted and threatened by an unknown male while directing traffic police said.
Investigators reviewed video surveillance footage from the area and, through investigative efforts, identified the suspect as 25-year-old Darjuan Saleem-Connor of Wilmington. Authorities later located and arrested Saleem-Connor at his residence without incident.
He was transported to the New Castle County Police Headquarters, where he was charged with Terroristic Threatening Against a Person 62 Years or Older, Offensive Touching, Menacing, and Failure to Obey an Authorized Person Directing Traffic.
Saleem-Connor was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and subsequently released on $700 unsecured bail.
